  2. If you are on a state pension it is virtually impossible to get pension credit. It exists mainly for early retirees who do not yet get the old age pension.

As a pensioner I feel entirely comfortable with the idea that my winter fuel payment may be cancelled in order to help offset the cost of accommodating and feeding illegal immigrants, or undocumented welcome guests, or whatever they are now called in Newspeak. My grandchildren won't be getting any presents this Christmas as a result, but I have explained to them that the amount of money saved will be in excess of the costs of providing sustenance and succour to these brave unfortunates, and there might be almost as much as a million pounds left over to provide outreach centres for sexual deviants and other worthy causes and, as educated young men and women, they too approve the policy.

  6. It does. It is near impossible for anyone over the age of 65 to get Pension Credit. Even if you are on means-tested housing benefit you will still not qualify.

  8. What if qualifying for the heating allowance was related to rates relief? If a couple or individual are considered to be poor enough to get the council tax bill reduced, then they might be poor enough to make paying heating bills a problem.
