Good joke -but technically wrong. At conception, the egg from the mother always contributes an X chromosome. The sex of the baby is then determined by the sperm from the father, which can carry either an X or a Y chromosome. If the sperm carries an X chromosome, the resulting combination is XX, which means the baby will be female. If the sperm carries a Y chromosome, the combination is XY, and the baby will be male. The determination of sex is encoded in the genetic material right from the moment of conception. However, the development of sex-specific characteristics happens over time during foetal development.
