In a sense. Hamas are fighting for the Iranians, and the Ukrainians are fighting for the Americans. In both cases they will, I think, come to regret their actions.

@OrlandoDibiskitt America wants the $14 trillion of coal, gas, oil and rare earth minerals in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. It has been Russia which has exploited these resources for generations but the Zelensky government has been bribed into transferring them to American companies. Russia is resisting this. Following the Minsk Agreements of 2015/16 America and NATO have spent billions on creating a large well-trained Ukrainian army which is currently in the process of being destroyed by Russia.

Very glad to see Phil criticising the Left's childlike support for Palestinian terrorism. At the same time he seems to be missing the fact that what we are seeing here - as in Ukraine - is the beginning of a seismic shift in the balance of world power as various nations fight back against US hegemony. Personalising the conflict by demonising Putin and Netanyahu doesn't help. They are both hard men, but genuine patriots who take hard decisions in the pursuit of their respective nation's interests. These interests may well coincide with their personal thirst for power - but there is nothing untoward about that.

@anglonorse2943 Hardly a reasoned response, if I may say so.

@anglonorse2943 But their actions speak for themselves. I've never read anything written by Netanyahu, but Putin has a quite large corpus of essays and speeches which clearly show a great sense of Russian history and a determination not to allow other nations to do his country down. Both men refuse to surrender. That's patriotism in my book.

@anglonorse2943 So what alternative do you propose?
