A Different Bias

Whips are called whips for a reason. Hounds which stray have to be kept under control. Having said that, the very fact that Tory MPs are now talking out of school on tactics used is a sure sign that the Johnson regime is crumbling.

Gavin Williamson attended a comprehensive school. Public schoolboys have other people to look after their tarantulas.

It's not just a Tory trait. George Brown was notorious for his insane tirades. And Bercow has of course joined Labour. Plenty of other examples I'm sure.

@dougbritton3239 Whoops! I meant Gordon Brown of course. George Brown was only nearly Prime Minister and although a total piss artist and quite rude from time to time, I don't think he quite matched Gordon's reputation. Standards were somewhat different in his day, of course. Snowflakes were thin on the ground.

@sueyourself5413 Today's "bullying" is just yesterday's robust management techniques. So yes.
1
@sueyourself5413 It's an emotive word. However if it simply means "unless you do as I say, I will see this is done to you" then that is surely a technique in common use. If you're on the receiving end you can either fold or call the boss's bluff. Weeping and complaining will generally get you nowhere.
1
@sueyourself5413 Difficult to define, so difficult to substantiate legally. If you are told to have a haircut or get sacked is that blackmail? Improve your sales figures or get demoted? Do as you're told or we'll get you for fiddling your expenses? Vote with the party or face de-selection?
1
@sueyourself5413 I was so shocked by your assertion that I Googled it and came up with this: "If the employer is satisfied that the employee has no reasonable grounds for objecting to the dress code and there is no potential discrimination against the employee, the employer may ask the employee to change their hairstyle, and commence disciplinary action in accordance with its disciplinary procedures if the employee refuses. A continued refusal to comply with the employer's dress code may lead to a fair dismissal of the employee on the grounds of misconduct or "some other substantial reason".
1
@sueyourself5413 I am in interested in your 2 spirited penguin. What is that? And the law as stands does give the employer the right to impose a dress and appearance code, although I think you can fight it on ethnic or religious grounds. The point though is that threats do not always equate with blackmail as such. It depends upon what behaviour is being expected of you.
1
@sueyourself5413 Now THAT'S probably at the limit. But having said that, politics is a dirty business and if there is an actual case of such pressure in the present instance I don't think it would be all that unusual. Wrong yes. But not unusual. And yes, blackmail.

@philippschwartzerdt3431 None of your analogies work. Rape and child molestation have never been socially acceptable as far as I am aware and modern plumbing has put paid to the necessity of emptying your potty out of the window. Smoking in public places is abandoned simply because smoking is minority occupation now, and causes physical discomfort to those who do not smoke. But there is a world of difference between physical discomfort and being all hurty-hurty because someone has been rude to you. Be rude back!

But he denies ever saying these things. I tend to believe him.

I have known old Etonians who were the toughest, hardest and most calculatingly vicious men imaginable.
1
@TheUnatuber Rugby? Rowing? Boxing? Cross country runs? The Eton wall game? Imagining Etonians as wimps is a mistake. Obviously they are not all bruisers, but plenty are. (In fact, as a kid I was soundly beaten in a boxing match against Eton. I had a bloody nose within two minutes and the fight was stopped.)

Hindus have plenty of historical reasons to be afraid of Muslims. And vice-versa, it has to be said.
1
They are both Hindus. It's none of their business.
1
@nopasaran8660 But why? Hindus and Muslims have no common interests in this matter.
1
@nopasaran8660 ????

@joshrogers7816 It is scarcely applicable.
