An essential difference, of course, is that the CPTPP has no federalistic political ambitions. As far as I am aware it does not wish to become a global power and interfere in the geopolitics of an increasingly dangerous world. It is concerned exclusively with trade - as the dear old Common Market used to be before it pulled its jackboots on and changed its name.

@susannehartl3067 You must know more than I do. Are there plans for the CPTPP to have its own army, police force and judicial system? Is it likely to attempt to seduce a former Russian ally and bring the world close to nuclear war?

@roisinmalone3015 By what twisted logic do you come to that conclusion? The opinions of others are irrelevant to my own opinion. I would have preferred we had left the EU without a referendum - and would very much preferred for it it to have been done far more circumspectly - but my distaste for referendums and my distaste for the EU are entirely different issues.
