@mikemlejnek4194 Only those "intelligence agencies" engaged in Western propaganda. Nobody knows for certain, of course but based on the Ukrainian units believed to have been deployed and their likely losses under constant bombardment a figure of 50,000 has been arrived at. The very fact that Ukraine has been defeated would seem to imply their losses have been greater. This is a war of attrition,after all.

@TheRuthlessEAZY He lost 20 - by many accounts Ukraine lost 50, and of their best. The capture on Bahkmut was never the point. The entire point of this war has been to destroy Ukraine 's armed forces to such an extent that they cannot regain Crimea or prevent the total takeover of Donbass. The siege of Bakhmut has gone a long way toward achieving this and if Ukraine tries to recapture it that objective will be even closer to realisation.

@Cheese_Boi1986 Doubtful. The Ukrainians have been under constant shellfire for months and could easily have lost 50,000 over that period. And even if by some miracle the Russian losses were greater it wouldn't matter that much. The very fact that Ukraine has been evicted from a fortified position with substantial losses makes it a win for Russia.

@mikemlejnek4194 Not a staging ground- but a killing ground. Ĺatest mapping shows the Russians have recaptured the strategic heights around the city and appear to be attempting to advance at several points along the Donetsk front.
