It is clear that Russia has realised it military limitations from the outset. Its army does not exist to conquer other armies, but to force them to disintegrate through a process of continued conflict. This has always been so.

@AndyM_323YYY Has it crossed your mind that this was what you were SUPPOSED to think? What actually happened was that the Ukrainians threw themselves into battle and sustained considerable losses in doing so.

@AndyM_323YYY The fact is we just don't know. The Oryx site is outwardly quite convincing, but I have my doubts. You are quite right in that Russia is traditionally insouciant about losses of men and materiel though. Have they miscalculated this time, however? The next few weeks should provide the answer. If all they have ever wanted is Donbass and Crimea, then it's hard to see how this ambition will not eventually be met as things stand at present. It will need Ukraine to bring up far more forces than it appears they have to prevent it.
