As far as Nazis go, while Russia was fighting them Ukrainian police and army herded Jews to the killing pits of Babi Yar and Mariupol to be machine-gunned by the thousand. Ukrainian civilians lined the street to jeer as the Jews were taken to their deaths.

During the siege of Mariupol Ukraine's infamous Azov Battalion kept people pinned down in cellars to prevent the Russian advance - the so-called "human shields". Anyone venturing out for food and water was likely to be shot by Azov snipers positioned on rooftops. These prisoners were eventually rescued by Russian troops. I expect this young girl was one of these - hence her gratitude.

@Ass_of_Amalek And Ukrainians shelled back. Furthermore Ukrainians kept civilians pinned down in cellars and bomb shelters to deter Russian attacks. Anyone leaving for food and water was likely to be shot by Ukrainian snipers positioned on the rooftops.

@Ass_of_Amalek It is attested to by testimony and video evidence.. They even cemented some elderly people in a cellar. The Russians heard their cries and had to break the concrete to get them out. I have the video but of course it would not get through. You could go to Patrick Lancaster's YouTube channel though. His coverage includes Russians freeing people from a bomb shelter and corpses littering the streets after being shot by snipers. Also people going for food being shot at.

@Ass_of_Amalek I'd rather take the word of the people actually being shot at than yours. The civilians were needed by the Ukrainians to stop the Russians shelling their positions. Why would Russians shoot civilians ?They helped them escape - as they did this young girl. I've seen the videos. The Azovs did it. That's what everyone said when asked.

@elias4779 No. From several sources. I have seen the videos and heard the testimonies. It makes sense too. You could try Patrick Lancaster and Eva K Bartlett if you doubt it. Both have YouTube channels where victims are interviewed and Lancaster has footage of Russian soldiers freeing people from one of the shelters.

@bonnie7898 Since I live in the South of England and have not completed any Russian military training, this is unlikely. Anyway Russia has two million reservists on the books before the war, so they're not likely to run out quite yet.

@bonnie7898 They present a point of view, that's all. It's just studio journalism. No-one can beat Lancaster for getting into the heart of the action. I don't know who pays him and I don't care. This is genuine stuff, unedited and raw. It presents a side of the conflict of which the Western public ought to be aware.

@bonnie7898 None of this matters. He is no more biased in favour of Russia than all the Western media is biased in favour of Ukraine. It is facts which count, and his videos are factual. Furthermore they stand up to reasoned analysis far more than much of the rubbish spewed out as "news" by Western stations. In my view people in the West are brainwashed even more than people in Russia.

@bonnie7898 The comparison is pointless. I am not concerned with Russia's attitude towards dissent, but with American foreign policy, which by interfering in the affairs of other nations results in millions of deaths. In any case all counties suppress dissent in various ways. Russia is certainly no worse than Ukraine and in the US and the UK too heresies are suppressed and troublemakers face serious consequences. But that, as I say, is not the issue here.
