All Russian men have completed at least a year's compulsory military training. Two million of them have also been on regular retraining exercises, at least once a year. It is these reserve soldiers who are being called up.

@Talinthis They would say that, wouldn't they? Trying to evade active service by pretending illness or disability has to be discouraged. The Russian Army may not be much good but there is a huge pool of healthy and trained or semi-trained men available. Can't you recognise anti-Russian propaganda?
2
@enriqueperezarce5485 It just needs more or them on the front line. Russia is now in a defensive position, trying to hold on to Donbass, but they are heavily outnumbered.

America's insane foreign policy on Ukraine has already led to worldwide recession and astronomical energy prices. May as well star a nuclear war as well.

@tomsociete9253 Why though?
1
@plaugemarine They weren't. This is just US propaganda. The "draftees" are merely selected from the 2 million reservists. From Wikipedia: The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii commonly known as the Russian Armed Forces, are the Armed Forces of Russia. They comprise the world's fifth-largest military in terms of active-duty personnel, with at least 2 million reserve personnel.[13][14] Their branches consist of the Ground Forces, Navy, and Aerospace Forces, as well as three independent arms of service: the Strategic Rocket Forces, Airborne Forces, and Special Operations Forces.

@dominicalexander737 Everyone's a loser - and the truth is the first casualty of war.
1
@vman9591 All of whom will have served at least a year as conscripts, and very probably been to regular subsequent training camps in order to qualify as reservists. Except the invalids of course, who are merely creations of Western propaganda.
1
@NickMeister77 University students can avoid conscription, it is true. Naturally enough it is these who take part in the protests - something which may cause their exemption to be revoked.
1
@Nouta-j8d Why should they do this when they have 2 million trained reservists?
1
@cristo6007 It seems Wikipedia is in on the deception. Just check the article on the Russian Armed Forces. Compulsory call-up for the majority and an army of at least 2 million reservists who have to go on refresher courses. You are falling for propaganda.
1
@lassemadsen607 You have a point there. The Russian army is certainly undertrained, under-equipped and poorly led in many instances.
1
@baldyslapnut. The fight is neither just nor unjust and nor does it have anything to do with us. It is a turf war between two kleptocracies. It just so happens that one gang of crooks is supported by the US and therefore we are subjected to constant ant-Russian propaganda, much of it rather silly. I would remind you that for the past eight years "Ukrainians" of Russian heritage have been fighting a bloody war against the Kiev administration in which many thousands have died, including women and children.
1
@baldyslapnut. Of course it did. Look it up in Wikipedia and other sources detailing how the Russian military is run. It's similar to the TA in the UK and the National Guard in the US and similar arrangements in other countries. Why should Russia be any different?
1
@plaugemarine They are. This "untrained civilian" nonsense is just Western propaganda pumped out by the media. With a few exceptions - such as university students - all Russians have to undergo at least one year of military service between the ages of 18 and 26 - unless they can get out of it by bribery or by pretending to be disabled or somesuch. The Russian army is pretty crap. but pretending they are civilians is just plain silly.
1
@Talinthis As with all conscripted armies, there are plenty of soldiers who far, far rather be elsewhere. Obviously, the degree of training affects how and where they are deployed.
1
@Talinthis They would say that, wouldn't they? The army is just trying to stop men from skiving off - which is a long-established tradition! Why would the Russians send sick, untrained people to the front when they have an army of 2 million trained reservists to choose from? The Russians are heavily outnumbered and are trying to defend territory previously taken, It's sometimes better to use common sense instead of being suckered by cheap propaganda.
1
@stevenellis2043 The Russians certainly seem to be poorly equipped and are vastly outnumbered. They are also now defending territory, rather than trying to take it.
1
@Chris Vee I'm rather flattered by the comparison. Everything I've said can be verified by a simple Google search though. It's all in Wikipedia and is common knowledge -if you could be bothered to check facts instead of believing the crap dished out by this channel and its like.

He would be more likely to ask "Alice". She is the Russian version, and her views on the whereabouts of Ukraine's borders are rather different to Siri's.
