There is a dark side to this if you believe, as I do, that the Russians have no great interest in conquering and keeping new territories but that their strategy throughout has been simply to destroy as much of the Ukrainian armed forces as they can. Kherson could well be a trap. Russian troops and Russian sympathisers have been evacuated. The Russians can now bombard Kherson from just across the river and from the air, killing practically everyone in it in a relatively short time.
