@strictlysport3624 I don't suppose anyone knows. The 6,500 figure is what comes up when you Google it. Other estimates put the number at less than a thousand. Wars are full of lies.

@Rjsjrjsjrjsj It does seem unlikely - but I Googled the 2021 estimate and got this: "Altogether the Armed Forces of Ukraine included about 780,000 personnel, 6,500 tanks, about 7,000 combat armored vehicles, 1,500 combat aircraft, and more than 350 ships." The simple answer is no-one outside of the top military in Ukraine actually knows. NATO is accused of paying huge sums to rebuild the Ukrainian army post 2014, even so this seems a huge number, as does the figure of 600,000 new personnel constantly put forward by Col Douglas Macgregor. But you never know.

@jimreily7538 Your figures are about as reliable as your political judgement. Estimates of Ukraine's forces at the start of the war vary wildly. All one can say is that are sound military reasons for both exaggerating your strengths and for minimising them whereas giving them accurately might well be foolish. But 6,500 is what you get when you Google.

@Rjsjrjsjrjsj As I said, it seems very unlikely but it does very much illustrate the fact that we armchair warriors are utterly in the dark when it comes to credible information about the true situation. Just checking now, it seems the quote is extrapolated from the very extensive Wikipedia article on the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It appears to be taken from the extensive article in Wikipedia. Any guesses why it's there?

@Ptrm594 A somewhat simple-minded assessment, and inaccurate in one important respect. I am a rather bored Englishman, currently mostly bedridden and like many other people I follow the war with interest. I am not Russian. It is quite clear that we are being fed inaccurate information. This war is a proxy war, like so many wars since 1945 it has been instigated by America in a bid to extend its commercial interests. In order to justify this war Zelensky has been portrayed as a hero and Putin as an utter villain. Neither claim is true. Zelensky is a fool, selected for the job by Ukrainian oligarch Ifor Kolomoisky. This is the man who also provided Hunter Biden with a $milliona year job for doing nothing. At the time he owned a good chunk of the US steel industry and half of downtown Cleveland. This is all part of a long term plot to remove the vast mineral resources of Donbass from Russian control and give them to America. Putin has achieved a great deal in bringing his country out of the chaos of the communist collapse, and he has had to be very tough to do it. He is being tough now. Tougher, I think, that those American entities who set this scenario believed he would be. One further point: I did not write the Wikipedia assessment. I would not know where to begin. It is a mystery, but it does rather show how how much false information there is out there.

@jimreily7538 I have deleted nothing. As far I am concerned the quotes are still there, and I stand by them. Every word. But I am not Russian. If I was I would freely admit it. The simple truth is that you are incapable of understanding how a free-thinking person, which I am, can reject the propaganda you have swallowed so unhesitatingly.

Every tank and other weapon the West provide to Ukraine extends the war and increases the toll of death and suffering. Think on that, you armchair warriors.

@jimreily7538 You are living in a fantasy. All Putin has ever done is keep his borders secure and protect his country's existing commercial interests. Comparing him to Hitler and imagining he wants world domination is an utter absurdity, trotted out by warmongering Americans for the consumption of fools. All Putin wants and has ever wanted is the acknowledgement that Crimea is Russian (which it is) and access to the mineral wealth of Donbass which was paid for and developed by Russia and is still largely staffed by Russian workers and managers. At the end of the day he'll probably get what he wants -which is all he ever asked for in his earlier peace proposals - and at least a quarter of a million people will have died to no purpose.
