  1. It might cost the healthcare service a lot but you pay tens to hundreds of thousands in tax over your lifetime. Then you have people living to a ripe old age drawing their state pension which is just as costly. It would benefit the government more to keep smoking rather than banning it. I’m quite sure that the tax pays for healthcare over the longrun. Not everybody is going to be needing cancer treatment from smoking so lets say one in three does need some sort of care from smoking. You have three times the tax paying for that treatment minus the people who died before retirement age’s pensions saved.

  2. Pubs should, it is obvious you either have smoking pubs and non smoking ones, or have dedicated pubs that are split like the old saloon and lounge bars. If you want smoke you go to a smoking pub or one with a split bar, and if you don’t you go to a smoke free or a split bar. Not hard is it?
