  2. Ukraine was building up its forces to retake the East of Ukraine. Russia had no other option but to protect the Russian speaking people in that area. Just remember they were being forced to speak Ukrainian and if they spoke Russian they would be jailed. That is a repressive state if you ask me. Russia was not going to allow that repression and awful things that were going to happen to the people when Ukraine retook the land.
