Let’s just say humans were just like animals brainwise. There was a species that was intelligent and they had a Darwin type of their own. He would look at us like the finches of the Galapagos and say there were marked differences and that was caused by years of breeding with our own kind and each sect went on a slightly different evolutionary path. Dogs and cats are the same. They all can interbreed with each other but there are pedigrees. I bet the finches could all interbreed but they just don’t, either because they are on a different Island or they just don’t because the young would not survive because their new form would not have its own niche. We humans have pedigrees just like the animals which makes us different.
