De Beers uses mind control to make you feel you have to buy a worthless bit of hyper-inflated rock. People are so weak to fall for the scam. What is funny is if your rock is lab grown, it is virtually indistinguishable from one that has been pulled out of the ground. So if you do actually buy one for your future wife and you want a diamond, buy a cubic zirconia. Looks just as nice and does not rob you of your money. Diamonds lose about 70% of their resale value instantly once bought.
