  1. I call it hubris. The downfall of many smart people, who think that they alone have the answers, is hubris, overweening pride. Seems the flaw in all tragic heroes.

  2. I think it’s too easy to say it was greed, etc. He went on it himself, was so confident of the security of his machine. That was the tragic flaw, that he felt so much hubris, that he would step onto the sub without reservation. He didn’t anticipate the outcome.
