Yeah I was happy with any one of the pandering elements just to support the opposite of what I've seen over the past 20 years (constant putting-down). But it wasn't just that. The cinema references were consistent and varied. From subtle to cliche. I was consistently shocked at how well structured all these actions scenes were. It was almost confusing how much fun the movie was. And there was a healthy sprinkling of fun stunts for no reason. I didn't feel like they were over done, rather the opposite. I could take them or leave them, but having them there aded so much immersion. Only thing is the pandering felt heavy handed at some points. Like it feels like they decided to just make money off lonely men and drive in the exact opposite direction of all the other movies. That's fine but jesus christ don't let your hero get the girl, be the man, AND have him wear a hat with mesh trucker hat listening to country in a pickup truck on the beach. At a certain point I started to think "Emily Blunt is farming me". It felt like fat thor, but not quite as bad as making a 5000 year old god talk like a freshman frat bro.

@Blaze6108 The message was clearly "Its an action 'hero' and he hurts more than he lets on". To the average Westerner, empathy towards men, or letting them enjoy the typical male fantasy is a "message" because to them the traditional male gender role is a farce. That's why our infrastructure looks like crap and our economy is in free fall.
