  4. Rather they overestimate the predictability of their models and media has polluted the scientific environment to enable these pseudo-scientists to act as soothsayers. See things as they are, not as what they could be. It could be that their was a real chance of igniting the atmosphere when the first nuke was tested. It could be the scientists were being very careful. OR in reality it's a fucking attention grabbing talking point bit of drama that looks good in movies, and in interviews, and in all the little media pieces that bureaucrats and financially challenged scientists benefit from. That last point is guaranteed what they are, even if they are true.
