Old historical buildings tend to require a lot of maintenance while recent buildings may be expensive at first but long term could be more efficient, at the end of the day it's mostly about usage and practicality and not just because it looks "good", Europa already has its own structure while new world countries had to start from scratch.

@Makiste, that's almost like comparing a small 3 room home with a whole mansion, of course the smaller older one will have less consumption, also yes it's more comfortable to have specialized buildings for each thing like in Europe,but the efficiency comes with space usage, countries with culture as old as Europe like China or India are choosing skyscrapers instead of their old architecture mainly due to their huge population, but I agree with the statement that those buildings are sometimes just for flexing instead of other more important needs like Dubai or Bahrain do.
