Even if someone is "being nice" for self interested reasons like it makes them feel good so be it. IMO most people value and want to "be nice" and would always "be nice" for the sake if being nice if all things are equal. But all things almost never equal. Sadly people have other self interests (such as greed). And that's we all tend to fail and be shitty to one another.
