@TurtleOnaMountiantop They don't have time for it? What world do you live in? I live in this one... the one where there are more United States citizens in prison then any other country by percentage of population and it isn't even close. Seems to me they have plenty of time to be locking people up... but those people's crimes are more likely to be victimless... like nonviolent drug offenses.

@hplogsdon293 If you say so. How about we legalize, tax and regulate drugs then? That would seem to solve your problem and our police can have their time freed up to pursue thieves like turtle seems to think they don't have time for.

@HSstriker regarding, "in some countries it's illegal to film other people..." Um... ok. If you say so. In the US we can have security cameras on our properties and there is nothing illegal about it. Thankfully.

@ChadHuey79 cool story that had nothing to do with the specific example in the video that DID include video footage. And it's not like we want a massive man hunt and road blocks. We would like, for example, the police to file a report. So that it's on record. So that they can use it to find trends of similar activity in areas.

@Xidanyu regarding, "you can't justify one's wrong doing by compare it to a worse case." Can you imagine how it would look if we did? I'm not even sure what the worst of the worst is as there is essentially always something worse. Hitler and the holocaust? Well at least they weren't raped first. Oh wait, some were, what about them? Well at least they weren't flayed.

@HSstriker regarding, "not in my country" Don't get me wrong... there are all sorts of idiotic laws in the US. There are laws akin to this when it comes to things like voice recordings of phone calls and such in some areas. But I'm glad we don't have (to the best of my knowledge and there may be areas where this isn't true and they essentially are violating our first amendment) laws akin to what you speak. The only thing laws like what you speak would do is protect criminals. There is no reasonable right to privacy when you are in public. And you have no reasonable right to privacy when you are in my private area. You have a right to privacy when in your private area... but that right can and should go away when you are breaking the law. Maybe right isn't the best word to use for it... it's more like a privilege.
