  2. Your comment fails to consider the fact that the government and election process does not actually represent the people. Election results can prove what the majority of Americans think about anything when a majority of Americans don't even vote. And some of those people don't vote, in part because neither major party represents them. Obama won in large part in 2008 because of him being against the Iraq war. I am confident that most American's want peace. Unfortunately our politicians do not represent the people and are not an accurate indication of the will of the people. And don't get me wrong there are plenty of Americans who lack empathy for people in other countries but I'm sure than can be said about humanity in general and that isn't uniquely American.
