@icomment2533 There is a legit debate to be had about when life begins even if I personally contend it begins when someone is born. My biggest problem with "pro-lifers" isn't that they think life begins at conception, it's that very often those "pro-lifers" support the death penalty, and/or don't support universal health care, and/or love war.

Bruce Boring Yup. Good catch. I should have included that. Ultimately their position isn't generally born of principle... generally it's born of religious indoctrination.

@marcus.guitarist Regarding, "What's wrong with the death penalty?" It's tough to even know where to begin with this. First and foremost it is blatant hypocrisy from a society trying to say killing people is wrong. A single innocent person being executed makes the system a murderer. It costs more then just locking people up and throwing away the key. And there is ZERO evidence to suggest that it is any sort of deterrent for crime. Nobody was going to rape or murder but then didn't because of the a death penalty... that simply isn't how the human mind works. Regarding, "Not sure about universal health care, don't know too much about it." Long story short... it would save lives by providing health care for millions without it which is the type of thing people who claim to be "pro-life" should care about.

@marcus.guitarist Regarding, "our moral compasses are our own." Yes. They are. Regarding, "Mine isn't meant to guide you, and yours isn't meant to guide me." You can think murder is just fine all you want. Even if you did that doesn't mean that I, or David, shouldn't be able to say things like, "should be" because of our own. You want to disagree with what "should be?" Fine. You can do that. But don't act like you are oblivious to where a person's ideas of what should be are coming from. Regarding, "The government should not be able to force anybody to do anything" Um what? You aren't talking about government then. What you are describing is anarchy. We have a government. And the government does get to tell you what you can and can't do. Or at least they are capable of imposing penalties when people do things the government deems they shouldn't. Again... we can debate about those things should be. But stop pretending the don't or shouldn't have any power.

It's based on a moral compass born of empathy. Not everyone uses a book of bullshit from the bronze age to make ethical decisions for them.
