The best thing big tobacco could do to maintain sales was to create confusion as they could not prove smoking didn't cause cancer, big oil took over the same advertisers, funding grass roots groups, background noise etc, and now with the internet, bots and comments, we should be careful around conversations that make zero difference to the topic, that don't drive the conversation forward in any meaningful way.
