50% of the total world population are alive today because of synthetic fertilisers, the farmers aren't trapped by monsanto, they are trapped by how much food they can produce for the cost of the farm, if seed companies want to sell a seed that is resistant to the herbicide that kills other plants that take nutrient from the ground or is resistant to insects that will affect the crop and you want that resistance to last for generations in the future then why can't the seed companies regain some of that future profit now and raise the price for every seed 20 x? That would be a 2000% increase on every seed, how would the poorest farmer who might be mortgaged to the hilt, afford a 2000% increase? Sure he can go back to heritage seeds but now his farm will be devalued, the bank will put the property into foreclosure, what just because you think all farms should take a possible 25% lower yield? I don't disagree we are putting expensive nutrients into the ground or that we are losing top soil but considering so much of the waste from these crops go towards animal feed these days, it will make everything so much more expensive, plus you want a 2000% increase in seed cost...

@user-lq3dj3eo8k Why don't you pull your head out of you know what before you tell somebody to do more research over something which quite honestly has absolutely nothing to do with my comment. Small farmers having second jobs has nothing to do with increasing the price of seed and btw of the 570 million farms around the world 500 million are considered family farms and 475 million are less than two hectares and those ones are increasing, While small farms in one part of the world, yours, might be decreasing, honestly what does that have to do with my original comment of seeds?

@user-lq3dj3eo8k It's a story of greed that 50% of people are alive because of synthetic fertilisers or better seeds are used? I think you might want to check your privilege, tell a farmer who can't get any seed to buy and whose family won't get any income or able to feed themselves. Yes Monsanto lied about the surfactant in round up, yes they make profit but do you know another company that has allowed more people to live, are you saying these people shouldn't be allowed to be alive?
