I have seen Vasya in the Hay's channel and the people seem to be left on their own, even by their own relatives in horrible conditions. A country so large and only half the people of USA would make it hard. The financial takeover of gas supplies to Europe wasn't going to do Russia any favours towards more money, it would have hurt the country for much longer. Now it seems to be stronger and long term I would say it will last, I'm not sure it is money wasted, lives on both sides of course but the costs could have been far more if they didn't defend.
