We still base our lives around something related to the Pharoah's saying collect the skin of Ra, our sun god, and we will reward you. We still think gold and money from it, are more valuable than they are.

  3.  @VladWorks  Only because people don't understand the rules. Money is currently printed at a cost of around 0.03% of its value and we earn and pay it back full value. We currently live in a society where people don't understand money and think we need more of it. Money did get us to do things more so than the whip but the system of control, as you say has stayed the same.
