Germany and Austria-Hungary would have crushed Russia in 1914 had Germany gone full defense on western front and attacked east instead. This is the option Austria-Hungary always advocated. Italy would not have attacked. Britain might have joined the war, but it would have happened much later with defeat of Russia. The best case scenario for Germany is defeating Russia and then negotiating peace with France without invading it.

@tbeller80 Moltke reportedly really suffered a mild stroke during that argument with Wilhelm. Wilhelm wanted to attack Russia but was offered plan to invade France with no other option possible. Even Austria-Hungary had various plans. Moltke's health quickly deteriorated following that stroke.

Yeah and that's why Russia has no choice but to commit genocide in Ukraine right? Do you want to add that Hitler had no choice but gas Jews? What about asking the invader to pull back troops? That's one thing I never hear from your Kremlin kin.

The West knows that and that's why it supports Ukraine. It is also clear Serbia is belligerent again and sides with Russia.

Not if Russia is kicked out of Ukraine. Belarus didn't join Russia in the war and neither did China.

Germany certainly helped escalate a local war into a world war by invading Belgium and France. Austria-Hungary just wanted help against Russia but German army had other plans. It is not widely known but Germany did retract the blank cheque it gave to Austria-Hungary few days before start of the war, but it was too late as events were spiraling out of control. At that point the war became impossible to stop as the parties involved distrusted each other. Stating you were simply helping your allies is misleading as Austria-Hungary never asked you to invade Belgium and France.

That's why we need to support Ukraine. Criminals winning a local war is just a prelude for a bigger war. Just watch what's happening in Russia. It's turning into a fascist state.

That's why these royal families were deposed in Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia. But it unfortunately turned out conservatives without a king will simply vote for a dictator. It is still valid to this day.

@kuntakinte2290 It seems the expectation was Russia will stand down again as it wasn't ready. In the last days before the war events spiraled out of control and there was no way to stop it.

@rosesprog1722 In reality every country had its own agenda. Alliances just served as justification to enter the war for general public.
