@skyrask1948 He is right. There is a small and insignificant number of pro Russian nationalists in Slovakia who would love to leave NATO, EU just to have a pro Russian dictator installed as they also hate democracy. The major problem is everyone else around them is aware of the plot.

@za.monolit Comment sections are very misleading. Go to see Tucker's interview with Orban and you would get impression all Americans love Mr. Orban due to all the praise he gets there. While Western EU tends to be quite socialist and anti-American, Eastern EU is the opposite.

@AlexC-ou4ju Western EU countries are definitely very pro Russian/Chinese and want to disentangle themselves from Americans politically.

Germany is naive. Germany being increasingly dependent on Russian gas is a huge problem as Russian government uses energy as a political weapon. Germans are too blind to see this through. The main political goal of Russian government is disintegration of the EU and Germany is inadvertently participating in the plot.

@za.monolit If you think US didn't lose the Afghan war that's fine, we respect your opinion. But the rest of the world thinks otherwise. Evacuation was a big mess and unwillingness of Afghans to fight Taliban showed we should have left long ago. I guess American political elites knew what would follow, but nobody was willing to take the risk until sleepy Joe came as he doesn't care about reelection.

@za.monolit In layman terms Taliban ruled Afghanistan before US intervened and returned before it could complete withdrawal. That counts as a waste of lives, time, money and a strategic defeat. I think Americans need to reflect on what went wrong, why we in Eastern EU were successful while Afghanistan is an utter failure with Iraq not far behind. We have a duty to promote democracy in the world, but I believe the methods must be different. Authoritarian countries should be facing tariffs and economic sanctions, while democratic countries should make free trade agreements. It must not pay off to be a dictatorship in trade.

@looseygoosey1349 Another European here. It's mostly Western EU countries who want close relationship with Russia while Eastern EU countries see Russia as a threat. I see US and EU as natural allies long term even if the relationship cools down at times.

@erin-tn2sd Russia did invade Ukraine, Georgia and pledged to support Belarus militarily in the event of a revolution. It is trying to undermine NATO and as part of that plot a limited military action against Baltic countries is conceivable with goal to carve out Russian speaking territory. Democracy is a prerequisite of freedom. Democracy in turn requires people to believe in it, defend it against internal threats and possible external military threats. If people are not willing to defend it, even die for it you are in final stage of democratic society before it dies. Along with it freedom and prosperity is lost as well. Russian government sees the EU as an ideological enemy as liberal democracy is a threat to long term power of Kremlin elites. They even designated Czechia, the country I live in as enemy of Russia along with US, because they know we have a duty to promote liberal democracy in the world and that includes both Belarus and Russia.

An outright war between major powers is never going to happen. There is too little to gain and too much to lose. Provocations and economic cold war for sure. As a European I think NATO should include Australia, South Korea, Japan if they are interested. It shouldn't be restricted to US/Europe but include democratic countries interested in joining.

@AlexC-ou4ju That's not what I hear from most enthusiastic EU supporters. Germany wants more Russian gas, less dependency on US and France seems to hate Anglophone countries as well. Under such circumstances common EU army or foreign policy is out of question. It is dictatorships who benefit from divisions between democratic countries.
