  2. You need to hire based both on knowledge of technologies and problem solving skills. People lacking problem solving skills will take many months to learn new product, possibly never and will require lot of assistance. People lacking knowledge of used technologies will bring in patterns used in technologies they know which aren't always desirable. Lastly there are soft skills and not everyone is suitable for a team job.
