@Anthony Simmons He probably reads too much Kremlin propaganda outlets. Majority of people do not want to leave the EU. It's the old communist generation, now mostly pensioners who keep voting for authoritarian style politicians. Those parties now face dwindling voter base.

People who speak multiple languages are economically more valuable than people who do not. Therefore Slovak Hungarians living in Slovakia should ensure that their kids also speak both languages fluently. I wish Slovak Hungarians would take up Hungarian citizenship and vote Orban out of power. I see minorities as an asset rather than trouble. It's better for a country to have minorities rather than be 100% ethnically homogenous.

@geto6242 Voting for Orban is a great choice if you 1.) don't mind endless corruption 2.) prefer one party rule 3.) don't mind a narrow clique of people take all power in government and be unable to replace them in the future 4.) want close relationship with Russia 5.) want to leave the EU
2
@geto6242 1.) you forgo this objective if you keep voting for one party. The clique in power will never betray their own corrupt peers. One party rule is incompatible with this goal, that's why authoritarian countries are the most corrupt ones. In eastern EU, one party cannot be in power for longer than 8 years as recent events in Slovakia have shown. 2.) it inevitably leads to control of media and censorship of opposition. One party rule is incompatible with freedom of speech and personal freedom. 3.) it is a huge problem because this issue is directly connected to 1.) . It is basically return to the age of monarchy when a narrow clique could rule country. Nobody should have automatic right to rule, that right comes from free elections (and not Belarus style elections). So if you don't mind living in "monarchy", having little to no influence on politics then Orban like figure is an excellent choice.

@notoriusmaximus783 That's the narrative of Kremlin fifth column in Czechia. Any citizen who trusts a foreign power more than own state deserves that designation. This narrative would have been more believable if the opposition was in power, not Mr. Babis and CSSD. These two had no interest in destroying relationship with Russia. On the contrary they concealed results of investigation until they were forced to act as the results leaked out. It's a disgrace country elects a foreign agent for president.
2
@notoriusmaximus783 Czech government had nothing to gain from publishing evidence gathered by its intelligence service. It would have resulted just in more disinformation being disseminated from Kremlin media and I'm certain you would have trusted the Kremlin explanation rather than your own government. Czech government was wise not to engage in these games.

It's an advantage - should Hungary go full authoritarian, Hungarians can escape to southern Slovakia as Hungarian is still spoken there. Slovakia definitely doesn't want to go down the path of Hungary and it shows Orban's narrative of EU threat is false as Czechs or Slovaks don't need Orban to protect themselves from the EU. Hungarians have been bamboozled by this wannabe dictator.

Russian built power plant is not in Czechia's interest as Kremlin is enemy of Czechia. I don't want further dependency on country which has hostile intentions.

@monkeyrealms6686 I would not sell my freedom for energy.
1
@monkeyrealms6686 Freedom is keystone of all advanced societies. It's something that must be obtained before a country can develop. It's not up for sale in exchange for gas, oil, food or house. I'm not poor, I'm richer than 80% of people in my country in eastern EU. So I must be doing something right as opposed to those who believe otherwise.
1
@monkeyrealms6686 Nope, people who migrated to US arrived penniless and worked their way up. Freedom + rule of law + democracy (that means free elections unlike Russian elections). That's how it works in developed countries. Poor countries are poor because they ignore successful models thinking their own way is better. So far they are all failures. So freedom is more important even if you cannot pay your energy bills. I want to be treated like a human, not like cattle. If you want to live like cattle, have a free shack and food from government that's fine, it's your personal preference but there are many people like me who want to be free, take our chances and fend for ourselves. Surrendering freedom will never resonate with us, even if it's a life or death question.

Agreed, Czechs and Slovaks are more open minded and prefer democracy over authoritarian rulers. They are not interested in petty conflicts with the EU.

@obrnenydrevokocur9344 It's an issue of core values. Free trade should be reserved for democratic countries only. EU, US needs to stand up to authoritarian countries like Russia. Freedom is not up for sale over gas. I support keeping sanctions in place.

@notoriusmaximus783 I think scandals like these are great for exposure of unreliable elements disguised as patriots. They have been noticed and won't fool anyone anymore.
