  1. Back then US was definitely a better place to live. Nowadays it still is, but not by such a wide margin as Russia has modernized although still lags behind especially in terms of political freedom. I believe nowadays the EU is a better place to live for American lefties as we have all they want while it will never be implemented in the US (especially the healthcare system).

  2. The US is probably the best place if you can make lot of money. The EU is better if you don't want to worry about things you mentioned.

  3. That's right. You cannot have both army and European style health insurance and social security. American political system is unreformable and they will never get what they want. It's easier to move to the EU than to pass European style health insurance in the US.

  4.  @michaelfowler2603  I understand that. It's a solid foundation that survived while other countries fell victim to socialism or fascism. However it has now reached a point where all developed countries surpassed the US in terms of health care cost and work life balance. That is the price Americans pay for being the first free country with a solid constitution. It seems young Americans are starting to realize it.
