@AhmeIID baghdad didnt recover until 20th century. islamic golden age ended and europeans gained the advantage. and now iraq is devastated with american war, isis and iranian proxy. mongolia is peaceful democracy with better economy than iraq. all that could been avoided if baghdad surrendered to mongols. the damage is already done. u cant pay me to live in iraq

@loquat44-40 do u not know mongol script? secret history of mongols? mongols are no mere barbarians. if they were then they wouldnt have established 2nd largest empire in history. baghdad library was already copied by chinese, persians, egyptians alike. cities such as Cairo were almost equal to Baghdad in prestige and knowledge. yet those cities have declined in the modern age there was no loss burning it. But if it wasn't the Mongols, it would have been someone else. It could have been England that burned the library, one of the many rich African Kingdoms. There was always someone who wanted to burn Baghdad. It just happened to be the Mongols. The only difference lasting to modern times though would be that Baghdad would have a beautiful old city for tourists, but that would be the extent of it.

@loquat44-40 mongols were atheist. u are confusing nomadic philosophism with religion. there was no temple, no god to worship. mongol empire was famous for secularism. buddhism was qing colonization. after mongolia regained independence they shot 30k monks and reverted to the old ways.

The term 'Mamluk Sultanate' is a modern historiographical term ilkhanate died to black plague. golden horde died to russians. chagadai khanate replaced by timurd empire, which overthrown by iranian. china overthrow yuan khanate. and all of this happened after the 4 mongol civil wars. nothing involved arab.
