I heard on the James Delingpole podcast (it's good check it out) that the doctor Niel Ferguson who came up with the beer virus spread models used some outdated statistical methods and refused to let anyone see his source code. And that he's been a chronic doomsayer about other diseases like h1n1 and foot and mouth which ultimately weren't that bad.
