@amalamakalow782 except it's been breaking down and becoming increasingly dysfunctional since the 1960's, radical feminism, sexual liberation, no fault divorce, etc.

Yeah well. My grandmother is 94 and has dementia. It's caused a financial burden and a lot of friction among my mother and her siblings because she had to be put in a seniors care home. It sounds terrible but I can't help but think it would've been better if she'd just died suddenly from a heart attack or something instead of living out her last years like this 😐. I think she would agree with me if she still had her faculties, she was always someone who tried to work hard and hated being a burden on others...

@gerhardusvanderpoll Some "wild beasts" like Gibbon apes and certain species of birds naturally mate for life. There's no society or laws telling them they must. They just instinctively do it. Humans on the other hand need institutions, laws and cultural indoctrination to force ourselves to mate for life. And in the West we "liberalized" (aka let standards slip) for a few decades and now marriage is like a 50% failure rate.

@dakotapeters5654 monogamous marriage was invented so that men could cooperate and build society. Otherwise we'd just constantly fight amongst ourselves and the winner gets all the women. Like gorillas or stags in mating season. We still see this behavior in some primitive tribes where they'll raid an enemy tribe, kill the men and kidnap the women. Another unpleasant truth is that there's a part of the female psyche deep in their lizard brain that's somewhat ok with this. Did you know that when they finally found those girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria, some of them refused to go home? They wanted to stay with their kidnappers. "I already had kids with this guy and there's nothing for me to go back to anyway.".

@johnnyearp52 heads of state is not relevant here. OP is referring to divorce law and family courts.

@johnnyearp52 My point is just because the 0.001% top positions in society are filled by men, doesn't mean the average man on the street has more power than the average woman. In the West (which is where I live, what goes on in other countries is not relevant to me) women definitely have more legal power in relationships.
