The trouble with this car is that it’s not much cheaper, not much faster and not much more economical than the Rav4 hybrid and I would say that it’s less all of those than the CorollaCross hybrid, and both of the CUVs are MUCH more practical to own.

No. The CorollaCross is better in every way other than looks and is much more practical and cheaper. This only lives on rental lots. This won’t fit adults in the back seat well and won’t fit much in the trunk.

@carguyeyedoc The CorollaCross is EPA rated at 42mpg combined, but all testers are reporting higher numbers upwards of 50. Prius AWD in LE form is rated at 53mpg, but real world tests are saying around 47mpg. The Prius AWD has 20.3 cubic feet of cargo. The CorollaCross hybrid is at 21.5. What’s even more noticeable are the back seat space and cargo space with rear seats down. The performance is similar as well… yet the CUV is several thousand dollars cheaper in top trim.

@HAA0603 CVTs make ZERO sound. That Sienna has the exact same 2.5 L engine, which is what makes noise.

Oh great… even more compression on the tiny 4. It couldn’t even handle what it had before! The Taos is a dumpster fire of a car. I don’t understand why we couldn’t have the T-Roc instead. Alternatively, can they slap the 2.0T from the GTI with that DSG into this?

@ My issue is the lack of windows, especially in the back. It’s incredibly dim inside and the visibility’s awful. The CX-30 fixes all of the drawbacks of this car and it sells FAR better.

@ This is an Aisin 09S and it’s pretty good. Not sure what you think makes the S. American version better. The 1.5T is definitely superior to the 1.4T.

@ Taller means more upright seating, which gives you more legroom in less length. Taller means more headroom. Taller means larger items in the trunk or items that can be stacked vertically. Most people have lives and families, despite you being a lonely sociopath.

@ Are you on meth? First off, this is about the US, not Canada. Second, the Rav4 hybrid starts at $32k, while the Mazda CX-50 hybrid at $34k. So yes, it costs more. It costs considerably more than a Prius, which costs $29,750 for an LE AWD. And what does the PHEV have to do with it?

In what way? It gets worse fuel economy, it isn’t faster and with a DI engine, a turbo and a torque converter automatic it’s 10x less reliable.

@ Except it isn’t a CVT in the Rav4 or CRV. They have nothing in common with CVTs and are more reliable than torque converter autos. The Hyundai has MORE tech! The warranty is infamously only better on paper as Hyundai has a reputation of not honoring it, hence massive amounts of lawsuits. Perhaps to you “better” is massive amounts of piano black surfaces and a lack of actual knobs and buttons for controls, but I’m not insane. FACT: there is NOTHING reliable about the Hyundai 1.6T engines.

@ It doesn’t need studies. Anyone who understands how it works understands that it HAS to be more reliable because of basic engineering. It’s a simple, heavy planetary gear set. You can’t say “fact” and use the word, “thinks”, genius. “Thinks” is an opinion. That said, the reliability data of the Prius, which is the car that’s used it for about 2 decades proves this FACT. So far, the reliability of the Rav4 hybrids since their start also supports this. Their transmissions simply outlive the rest of the vehicle. They don’t break.

@ No. That’s actually just your OPINION and not a fact. Also, there is literally no delay in CVTs. The “rubber band” effect is literally just the engine holding the most efficient RPMs for a while and then lowering them as the car speeds up. It’s literally the automatics that have delays in shifts. You were talking about the Hyundai versus the Rav4. I brought up the reliability issue.

@ No, it’s LITERALLY your opinion about other people’s opinions. Did you drop out of school or something? The Gamma 1.6 is Hyundai’s 8th most reliable engine, according to experts. And that’s without the Turbo. It is a FACT that Hyundai is notorious for engine troubles, especially their GDIs. It is a FACT that carbon build-up is a problem on ALL direct injected engines. It is a FACT that turbos add tons of complexity and failure points to all turbo engines. That alone, given that the Toyota’s 2.5 is dual-injected and has no turbo, makes the Toyota’s engine more durable. It’s literally basic engineering. The way the eCVT works and the way it’s made FACTUALLY makes it simpler than ANY automatic, DCT or CVT transmission and it’s arguable that it makes it more durable than even manual transmissions because it has a lot fewer moving parts, more robust gears and no switching of gears. You’re ignorant, and my guess a huge MAGA fan because you like being ignorant, preferring simply to double down on your BS (and lie) instead of educating yourself. Oh and I don’t care about how it acts. You don’t grasp how hybrids work, so you don’t grasp how it acts anyway.
