  2. That’s funny because Russia annexed Franz Josef Land by force. It was actually discovered by Norwegian and Austro-Hungarian explorers. It has never been inhabited.

  3.  @davidgriffiths7696  Except Franz Joseph Land is 360km (220 miles) north of the Russian coastline, not within the 200 mile boundary and Svalbard has a special status.
