@Marco_Polo790 The UK has 227 Challenger II tanks in operational status with additional 22 in use for training.

@dioghaltasfoirneartach7258 The M1A1 is absolutely NOT on for Ukraine. The US has no A1 variants left. All have been upgraded to A2. Furthermore, the tank IS too heavy for Ukraine, it IS too difficult to maintain, it DOES consume a lot of fuel, but most of all, that fuel is jet fuel, not Diesel oil. It will run on any fuel in an emergency, but for prolonged use you need jet fuel. That’s not readily available in Ukraine. The issue of weight is misunderstood often. Ukrainian bridges won’t support it and Russian/European pontoon bridges wont support it. Ukraine also has no wreckers to lift or tow the Abrams’ weight, so once it breaks down or runs off the road into a ditch, it’s done for. That’s useless.

@Thinkingaroundthebox WTF are you talking about? The latest model is the M1A2sepv3 and it uses the same multi-fuel turbine engine as the older models. You must be thinking of the proposed future tank project AbramsX which is supposedly being designed with a Diesel-Electric engine, which will blow away the turbine. It’s not a ready tank though, just a technology demonstrator.

@yurakolesnikov9725 They’re killing orks, very handily. Lots of recent videos of them in action on YT.

The nice thing is that the US Army can provide depot-level maintenance in Poland as Poland is already buying Abrams M1A2sepv2. It’ll be good training for US and Polish maintainers. The difficult part is that they’ll need JP, which Ukraine can’t provide, 100T wreckers, and heavy pontoon bridges. Otherwise the Abrams is simply too heavy for existing infrastructure.

No, but but the logistics burdens would be equal, for very little impact. Those tanks are outdated. They have no thermal vision, no modern fire control systems and 105mm cannons. Ukraine still has plenty of Ts that can do all that. What they need are superior tanks that can score the first hit, every time, and bring their crews home. If ever their stocks if T-55s, T-64s and T-72s fall, the US can send M60s.

Yes, but it’s now getting Germany to allow sending Leo2 tanks from Poland and Finland. Sweden is considering sending too. That will be closer to 100 to start.

@huntergatherer7796 All of them are multi-fuel in terms of “can run”, but if you run them on an alternative fuel they produce less power, experience more degradation and require more routine and critical maintenance. In other words, they can run on other fuels in an emergency, short-term, but will then need a breakdown, very similar to how high performance cars can run on lower octane fuel, but will develop knocking. The Challenger II and Leopard II are also technically “multi-fuel.”

Challengers have incredibly wide tracks, so no, it wont be a problem.

Germany said their stored Leopard IIs will need at least two years of refurbishment as Germany wasn’t allowed to store tanks by law.
1
No man… 14 are just to start. To train. There will be many more. Only 148 Challenger II are planned to be upgraded to Challenger III. That leaves 100 or so in excess.

@karantikoo9302 Yeah… boom all day, but just like you trying to hump a woman… nothing happens.

@davidnoelfranks1124 An average Russian alcoholic? Days!

Abraham? Moses maybe?

@danielw5850 Actually no, not a fair point. Neither side has fought using maneuver warfare and neither knows anything about combined arms tactics. There is a battalion of Ukrainians currently in Germany undergoing 8 week training in combined arms by the US Army.

@namur-iq6ih Russia still has to keep thousands of tanks and crews in case China or anyone else tries to invade. Russia is a HUGE country with HUGE borders. Also, Russia’s 1000s of tanks is a lie. It’s why took hundreds of T-64s out of storage and sent them to fight.
1
@danielw5850 No, you’ve pissed on yourself enough.
1
Ukraine still has hundreds of tanks in their inventory, so they don’t need all that. Even 100 Western tanks will be able to blow a large counter-offensive hole straight to Mariupol, splitting Russians into two, and lengthening the front line, which is what Ukraine needs.

@Marco_Polo790 And yet you did jot change or delete your false comment.

@nafisfuadayon6832 The UK has no shortage of tanks. It’s about to purchase the Challenger 3 upgrade. The UK doesn’t need many tanks for defense as it’s an island.

Challenger II, you moron.

M1A1 hasn’t been around for decades, except in Egypt. We’re on M1A2sepv3.
