  2. k ho52 It was done ALL the time. The Luftwaffe had specific tactics devoted to shooting survivors at sea and Americans shot plenty of Japanese too. All sides did it. Yes, it was against the rules. They all did it though. It’s well documented.

Furthermore, I do see that Americans were quite brutal toward the Japanese and that since America was never invaded by the Germans, they never harbored an intense hate for them the way Europeans did. Scientists have nothing to do with any of this. This is about how sailors were treated in combat. Keep on topic.

  5. Ostarrichi _ Many were, but not sailors. Those old ships had no room for extra mouths during patrols. No one got anything extra for bringing back extra sailors. Now if they could get a higher ranked officer, that was different, but it wasn’t worth the time to look for them. There was a chance that they had radioed for help and a destroyer or sub would be coming.
