To be fair, an E-3 in the Coast Guard does FAR more operational work than an E-3 in the Air Force. This is actually true for the whole enlisted force. Most of the USCG is enlisted work. Most units don’t even have any warrant or commissioned officers. That can be a plus or a minus, depending on your personality or unit.

Fun fact: IC (incident command) Center watches are 12 hours long, so two crews a day, and if you are enlisted, the primary rates to do this is OS (Operations Specialist) and MST (Marine Science Technician.)

@stuartkorte1642 Where did you get $400k from? Their procurement coat was $4 million and they were designed by Camarc of the UK. 174 boats were procured by the USCG.

North Korean People’s Navy: We have snake plants.
7
@Noobwater They’re not that young or impressionable. There’s nothing wrong with a person doing any of the work in the video.
7
BZ! Was that in D17?
5
Former Coms/Navs tech on C-17s. Hornets are actually something that excites people.

@Noobwater The military complex is the industry that makes things for the military, you dolt. The military in the US is a job, a career. They come to schools as colleges and other employers do to fairs, giving graduates choices. They inform. Many kids in high school don’t want to go to college or don’t want to go to college right away. The military can be a great option to gain skills, experience and earn money, as well as earn a free higher education. The military paid for my two university degrees. You can’t even write three words in English.

@AL_EKs It is a self-righting design, but is not meant to work in heavy seas (surf). I believe it’s rated for 12’ seas/50 knots of wind. The 47’ Motor Life Boat exists for heavy weather rescue.
2
The Canada Coast Guard has these same boats!
2
Indeed.
2
Actually, they’re all of the above.
2
I’m sure if he contacted the Academy or the Eagle CO, they’d be happy to have him for a day or two during a sailing. It’s already a teaching ship.
2
Any more from the series?
2
@mts9789 I can tell you with certainty that ALL reports of VDS sightings are investigated. NOTHING is assumed. The US Coast Guard is a professional organization.
2
None of them were armed, which means they didn’t have marine enforcement specialists or boarding team personnel on board. That’s fine for a save, but if you have a legal issue you want a LEO present as well. Regular RB-M patrols will have LE qualified personnel with all required equipment.
2
@DanTheCaptain The Airdales are considered to be a little bit of both.
2
@oscarburke5244 I know what we do, bud. 😉
2
That’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s a diagram of the Crazy Ivan.
2
@Opharg I don’t know of any military that isn’t designed, equipped or trained to kill. That’s the point of every military.
1
@charlidog2 90% of Marines have never killed anyone. The Coast Guard are military personnel, armed, trained, and is the only branch that sees actual firearm use, in combat, at ALL times.
1
Umm I doubt you want to spend $2k to fill the fuel tanks.
1
The surf school at Cape Disappointment is next level.
1
Not higher minimum requirements, but higher actual scores among the recruits. Being so small, they don’t need many recruits, so they just pick the best of who applies. It’s pretty competitive.
1
A bow thruster would add lots of complexity and this boat can already move sideways.
1
Agreed, by once they turn 30 they all wish they were in the Air Force.
1
@bc-guy852 You’re correct. They use the 47’ MLB that the USCG uses.
1
You don’t want that fuel bill and the cabin up front is too small to live on comfortably.
1
You know what’s funny? With all that technology, the boat still lacks a fuel tank gauge. When you’re filling it up, you do it by sound, sight, and a dipstick.
1
If you let go of this boat’s controls you won’t crash.
1
@northwoodsyankee3528 Hey, there’s always the Auxiliary. If they can pull off SAR cases in civvie boats with little training, you surely could in a 40’ or a 41’.
1
@northwoodsyankee3528 😆 Why? I’m in it and we’ve got a few retirees.
1
Literally the state’s abbreviation.
1
Kvichak?
1
@carlbuick I’m not sure Dustin needed to mention that and it’s not really true. He has no ability to enforce inspection laws. He’s a BM, not an ME, so he can’t do a lot of LE stuff actually.
1
@carlbuick No, never at Siuslaw. Title 14 is very broad, but only people with boarding team member credentials or boarding officers are recognized as LEO by the federal government.
1
@carlbuick Times have definitely changed, especially after 9/11, but going by this video, the Florida fish and wildlife still support the station.
1
Exact same pay, all have dorms and the Air Force and Navy get better food.
1
Those units may not be known to you, but they certainly aren’t “random”. They’re older than metric units are.
1
@AlecBrady Except imperial units are specifically appropriate to these videos as they are about a Naval service. Naval services around the world still use nautical miles, knots, fathoms, and other non-metric measurements. It’s also about a US agency which uses the metric system. It doesn’t matter where the viewer tuned in from. You don’t make a country learn the tourist’s language. And all of that LITERALLY means it isn’t weird, by the word’s definition!
1
It’s rated to 12’ seas.
1
You can’t subtract “where it is” from anything if you don’t know it. You’re unable to explain a basic equation in basic English. It’s simple: by knowing where it isn’t, it deducts where it is.
1
@CharliMorganMusic That’s false. It isn’t looking for a specific temperature (hot), it’s looking for a temperature higher than the background.
1
Nor do they work independently. Really innovative!
1
These are heavy duty Diesels, not high performance gasoline or alcohol engines. Being 3/4 up the “good” range on the dipstick requires no added fuel. Overfill is actually a bigger concern.
1
Oh don’t feel bad. They have microwaves on these boats too.
