@boydrobertson2362 Stalingrad wasn’t a victory for Russia until it formalized into putting the Germans on a constant retreat. At the time of the battle no one thought it would be any type of victory. Russia lost about 1.1 MILLION soldiers in that battle. And so Bakhmut can become Ukraine’s Stalingrad, for sure.

I think most people aren’t thinking big enough here. Russia has to consider that if it really engages the vast majority if its personnel and equipment in Ukraine, regardless of that conflict’s outcome, Russia won’t be able to defend itself against anyone else. That has Putin and others in power worried. They believe they will win this, yes, but then what? Will China, Poland of Finland just march in and take over large swaths of Russia the way that Russia did in Ukraine? That’s absolutely how they’re thinking. Russia can only commit so much to the fight at any given time without making its own territory completely vulnerable. That’s why they’re holding back most of their best tanks, aircraft and missiles. They literally think NATO will attack after Ukraine is done.

@baronvonlimbourgh1716 Absolutely they could commit those forces, but they won’t. And that’s what both side supporters need to keep in mind. Sure Russia has thousands more tanks, hundreds more planes, hundreds of thousands more soldiers, but it won’t send them into battle in Ukraine. They may as well not exist for this purpose. Russian supporters always say there are so many more T-80s and T-90… that they will be sent in later. No, they won’t be. They will remain in Russia in case China or NATO attack at some point (no, China isn’t Russia’s friend). And when it comes to soldiers, the soldiers serving inside Russia need constant replacements too. Their contracts end at sole point.
