  1. This is really simple: the major players on the Russian political front are all looking for a political way out for themselves, seeing that Putin has none, and that any win is now unattainable. It’s all about being to save face and perhaps use an “I told you so” months down the line, when the Duma and populous are looking for a new head of state. There is no real chance to hold 400k or even 200k Ukrainians to current lines. All sides know this. Not with all the equipment, training and intel they’ve received over the last few months. So now these certain people are trying to look farther out, to a post-war Russia and who will be left standing.
