@wildonemeister You are absolutely correct. In the sea of journalism, the NYT are still one of the most reliable ones, but to relate that to our UK friend, it may be the most reliable Vauxhall, but it’s still a Vauxhall.

@MonkeyJedi99 That’s a part of it, yes.

@linusa2996 They did no such thing. Reports from all major networks around the world have been coming in the entire time.

The reality is that we, the consumers, are at fault for this. Investigative journalism takes time. A LOT of time. We insist on knowing about what happened immediately. Those two things are exclusionary.

@tungzauzage977 I’m worried that you’re not entirely off. We’re already seeing that in some ways.

@xiaoka At some point you actually have to assume they’re incorrect, even if not intentionally lying.

@hardkoreboy The bigger issue aren’t the production floor journalists, but the editorial staff who are far more concerned in meeting story quotas than proofreading or questioning sources/data.

They get it wrong because they don’t care if they do. It pays to be first, not best. This isn’t an issue of military ignorance, Ryan, at all. Notice their first three article mentioned that this was “per Palestinians”. That says two things: first, they didn’t corroborate with the opposing side or independent analysts and two, they are including an exculpatory statement because they know very well that the claim may be wrong. So they know there is a good chance that things aren’t what they seem, so why are they still writing it? Readership has to be up. Engagement has to be up. Those are the indices that are used to sell ads - the primary source of revenue for the business. Being thorough, slow and honest doesn’t sell ads and it doesn’t gain engagement.

Results don’t come from vacuums.

@bernardzsikla5640 How does one get accurate information without methods of getting accurate information? Do you read what you write?
1
@bernardzsikla5640 Except it isn’t math and journalism isn’t about the fact that a hospital blew up. It’s about who did it and why, which means it’s LITERALLY about knowing whether it was a 2+2 or a 7-3. Having the story correct means not saying, “2+2=5”, but they can’t just say, “it was 4” because that in itself is not trustworthy. Because … how do you know it wasn’t 6?
1
@bernardzsikla5640 You don’t read well, do you?

Prove your claim of being biased solely to one side please. From my knowledge, they get things wrong in every direction.

No. The report was based on a single source - Hamas. The NYT just didn’t wait hours to get the full picture. They chose to publish with just a single source. They purposefully said, “according to Palestinian authorities” in the title. They knew it might end up being wrong and shifted the blame onto the source, which goes against Journalism 101.

@tamlandipper29 I figured something had to resonate, but without being an outright arse and saying, “Reliant”.
