As a Jew, the term Eretz Yisroel is absolutely crucial to us, both religiously and as an ethnicity. For thousands of years Jews have been without a homeland and persecuted throughout the world. What has kept them going has been the divine promise of their own land - Eretz Yisroel. The issue is that to some radical traditionalists, that land is the old land of Judah, Canaan, United Kingdom of Israel, Samaria and lots of other territories because in the Torah (and the Bible) the territory differs quite a bit. So while to most Jews it simply symbolizes us having a country of our own, to the more fundamental crowds it means a larger territory that is currently not Israel, especially the West Bank, which was a part of Judea and Samaria.

@hoilst265 It wasn’t at all a coincidence. They were pushing for Palestine the whole time. And yes, even the Soviet Union offered a place, but money offered actual independence, just relative autonomy.

@Kuricang31 I know it does, and some jews even tried going there, but it failed as there are no protections there for them.
