They’ve always been money pits. The difference is that back in the 20th century, only wealthier people owned them, and they could easily afford the repairs. Today, middle class people can afford to buy a Merc, but then freak out that their maintenance is more expensive than a Toyota’s. They actually don’t break down much more than a Toyota. They’re just expensive to fix because they’re complex, innovative luxury cars.

They’re very low.

The new WRX actually has that texturing on the ugly wheel arches.

Lunar Rock is the 2021 special color for TRD packages! So yes, you will be able to get a Taco or 4Runner in it.
2
That $75k truck realistically retails for around $55k-60k. Still a lot of money, but considerably less than the sticker price.
2
It’s not pretty, but there’s a good reason why they’re putting those powerful new headlamps so low now... They were blinding drivers and IIHS hits the safety scores for that.
2
Meanwhile... 2011 Legacy headlamp lightbulb change requires removal of wheel well protectors, then a child’s hand to perform contortion acts in the blind.

No heated seats? You get heated seats on an XLE!
2
John Eason In the winter you put sand bags in the bed to increase traction.

In defense, it will be a POS used Ram that will have rust throughout and a broken air suspension.

@JohnDiMartino It’s not a Fiat Diesel engine. It’s a VL Motori.

punker4Real It’s form following function. Safety, aerodynamics dictate everything.

Subaru doesn’t make any actual off-road vehicles. They never have. What you see in rallies are no more stock than a stock car.

Rear windows not rolling down all the way isn’t a child safety feature. It’s just wheel wells getting in the way. When they aren’t, they roll down all the way.

Brian Newby I think that was the song on the stereo. Probably Christina Perri.
1
It’s an expensive way to re-do a Syclone.
1
To be fair, VR6 are still V-6 engines, just with a narrow angle.

Minor correction: The 3.0 EcoDiesel (L 630) used in the Ram 1500 is sourced from VM Motori, not Fiat. Only the Ram ProMaster van uses the Fiat 3.0 EcoDiesel. They’re different engines by different companies, though both Italian and both owned by FCA.

It’s the 2021 TRD special color!
1
gc82000 I know. However, it’s also the ‘21 TRD special color, so it’s likely not going to come back on other trims for next year.

mzondi1970 For some odd reason (money savings?) VW updated their TSI engines to dual port from just DI, but not for North America. Hopefully now that all Golfs sold here will be made in Germany that will change.

Automated safety disabling buttons.

Looks like an Eagle, drives like a Herc... but at least a J model.

What we need tuned is a simple family sedan like a Camry or Accord 4 cylinder. Make them sleepers. No crazy rims or major lowering. My 2005 Camry was available with a manual, but could also take some TRD sway bars and a strut brace. The engine takes well to turbos.

Brian Percival What’s bulletproof about these engines? Is it the failing head gaskets or the 12 quarts a year of oil they eat? What’s great about the engineering? The failing CVTs? The basic AWD system they now have? Is it that they cut the power as soon as it gets tough?

@EfOneAddict What do you have against pi?

Hey Mercedes... my 1st shirt’s a dick.

When did the Outback have a manual transmission?
1
Yeah... make the headlamps halogen and the fog lights LED, completely opposite of what is best for both. The USB-C makes sense for most countries in Europe. Over 80% of people use Android phones over there and most of them now use USB-C connectors. It’s better than the old proprietary VW plug in the glove box.
1
The vertical seating position, better reliability, better ground clearance, better resale value and more comfort. Any other questions?

Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) - metallurgical analysis via low electric current, magnetic particles, liquid penetrants, x-rays or ultrasound. Damn... I haven’t sounded that “2A” in many, many years.
