  2.  @intergalactic_butterfly  The foot is 100% a standard, scientifically defined, and fixed distance. It is the equivalent of 30.48cm, always. It is also older than the centimeter, so if anything, the metric system is the arbitrary construct. In fact, its history absolutely acknowledges that.

  11. US and UK miles are identical and have been since the yard was standardized in 1959. It’s also called the “international mile”.

What’s relevant is the amount of people who use it, the percentage of aircraft thar use it and who is the leading agency in aviation regulation today.
