US airlines purchase mostly Airbus aircraft assembled in the US. If Airbus wants to lose four of the largest airlines in the world as clients… it can. That’s how free market operates.

European protectionism had been a thing since WW2 and is the reason why European carriers have been almost exclusively Airbus-driven. The countries have been giving Airbus and flag carriers incentives to buy Airbus the whole time.

@ It isn’t. 1. No, Turkey isn’t in the EU. Neither is the UK. 2. Germany has been reducing their Boeing fleet, very steadily, for many years. It no longer operates any short-haul Boeing aircraft, it purchased very few 747-8s and very few 787s. It operates just 32 Boeings, with 54 more on order. In contrast, it operates 302 Airbus aircraft, with 98 more on order. American’s Airbus lineage traces its way back to US Airways and America West through mergers. Its fleet has 483 Airbus aircraft currently, with 146 on order. It has 499 Boeing aircraft in its current fleet, with 175 on order.

Almost all US orders are for Airbus aircraft assembled in the US, so tariffs wouldn’t apply, orders wouldn’t cancel and deliveries won’t matter. The rest are for wide-bodies that Boeing can deliver on time and in fact can probably be a better business proposition. In fact, a cash infusion would actually drive Boeing into increasing production capabilities, allowing them to speed up order deliveries.

@ The A320 series (not just the A320) is literally most of the Airbuses sold in the US and components for Airbus and Boeing aircraft come from all over the world, but tariffs are applied only onto final assembly. Europe should counter with raised tariffs on anything the US tariffs more than the EU, for sure. Or… both sides could lower them equally. As per cash infusions, I thought “new orders” was clear enough, but obviously not for a person of your intelligence.

You don’t grasp the actual quote, you omit the context, you omit where he says it will be reciprocal and you constantly hit “like” on your own comment after you post it. Again, between the tariff and VAT, the EU already levies 25% on US auto imports, and has for many years! How is it okay for the EU, but not others????

@ Well… your comment proves that YOU are the one lacking knowledge after all. Import VAT applies the tax solely on imported goods. For example, in France, an imported Toyota from Japan gets a VAT of 20% plus annual road taxes on usage. A Peugeot only gets the road usage tax and no VAT at all.

@ 100%. They don’t prioritize customers by country. Never have. They have priority customers by purchasing loyalty. US airlines may de-prioritize purchasing from Airbus due to a higher cost, but not the other way around.

@ It’s European protectionism. Literally a Trump behavior that Europe has been practicing since the 1930s. Let’s not all forget that fascism was a European invention, as was colonialism, and that fascism is very much alive and well in Europe today, still. Actually much more so than in the US. This past summer I walked through a large fascist riot in Madrid, with people wearing swastikas and throwing up the Nazi salute. Two years prior, same thing in Rome.

@ That’s actually ALL false. Categorically. 1. European companies DO participate in arms competitions. BAe, EADS (Airbus) and many others are regular arms manufacturers that compete (and win) in the US. In fact, the new light tank M10 Booker is the GDPS Griffin II, derived from the Austro-Spanish ASCOD. BAE systems had a competing design of the M8 AGS. In fact, both designs in the program were European. The US only requires that it be produced in the US by a US subsidiary, but the parent company and design are perfectly fine being European. 2. Trucks and buses from ANY nation (other than sanctioned ones) are allowed to be sold in the US, as long as they meet US Department of Transportations requirements for safety and size, and EPA requirements for emissions. We actually have European buses all over the place, with Irizar (Spain), Volvo, Mercedes, Setra, Neoplan (in the past), Alexander Dennis, and Van Hool are the most common. European trucks are not common, but do operate here as well. The two biggest reasons: cabover designs fell out of favor in the 1990s and price. European trucks are significantly more expensive, even without the 25% tariff. Volvo makes a separate design of trucks in the US for North America. Scania is actively trying to market currently. 3. Skanska USA is a MAJOR construction company operating all over the country. However, because of union and legal reasons, yes, the US does require that they be US-registered businesses. You are confusing me saying that the EU is extremely protectionist with a claim that the US isn’t protectionist. I never made thar claim. EVERY country is protectionist to some degree. It’s just that the EU is EXTREMELY protectionist and most Europeans don’t know or understand that. They are neger self-reflective, always out to down others the way Trump just treated Zelensky.
