  3.  @dustinb1070 Spark (not flame) has to hit the VAPOR of the lighter fluid or a hot shell casings can hit the fluid. Either way it’ll ignite.

  5. @ Heet is a gasoline additive that’s made of isopropyl alcohol and other additives. It emulsifies with any water in the gas tank to allow it to mix with the gasoline, so that water doesn’t condense and collect at the bottom of the tank. Isopropyl alcohol is extremely volatile and it burns. It also reacts with oxygen to form unstable peroxides, so its vapors are explosive. It is denser than air, so its vapors stays on your clothes and skin, and its flammability range is between 2% and 12.7% in air. Its flash point is just 12°C (closed cup) so any spark or a strong heat source like a spent shell casing landing on it will likely ignite it.

  6. @ The flash point of Heet (isopropyl alcohol) is 12°C, so an ejected shell casing can ABSOLUTELY light it on fire. Go take a chemistry class before arguing chemistry. “Spontaneously” means without involvement of other factors (on its own). If the heat of a shell casing is the reason then it’s NEVER spontaneous.

  10. Running someone over is also considered as deadly force in courts and in police procedure. The issue is that you don’t want to use a gun with lighter fluid all over as guns also cause sparks as do hot shell casings. The officers used very solid judgement here.
