Here is our economic problem. Our corporations re-invest all profits and pay their investors solely in stock value growth. Stock value growth is a product of regularly improving profit margins. Investors now expect constantly improving margins, which is impossible. That’s not how businesses are supposed to work. They are supposed to make a good living for their owners and employees and for much of their existence they are supposed to earn flat profits.
