The same was written of German soldiers when they were on the run. I don’t know how stupid a person would need to be to assume a large army would all be completely uniform in their fighting, equipment, training or morale.

@shawnflynn1713 Oh tons of stories about some Germans fighting to the last, but so many just dropping their weapons and running. War gets real very quickly and for those who were not prepared, trained, indoctrinated and well-led it makes no sense to die when they can just run away and live. When Germany was invaded, all of the allied soldiers noted these discrepancies.

To be fair, the Ukrainian military was even worse at the start of the war. They were severely tired, depleted and underfunded. What we’re seeing now is FAR better quality soldiers than the Ukrainian army used to have.

I don’t know how such seemingly intelligent men are having such a stupid conversation, honestly. Truly small minds from very closed off countries. Russia is a HUGE country with a HUGE population. I know it must he difficult to grasp for people living in such tiny, monoethnic countries, but Russians aren’t all the same. They’re all different. They all have different opinions, backgrounds, stories and experiences. Many are smart, many are not, just like everywhere. When it comes to their military… their professional combat arms personnel are mostly well-equipped and trained, but that’s honestly a fairly small portion of the soldiers. Most are not combat arms, as the support tail ratio is at least 3:1 and growing. Russia also sent in a large quantity of poorly trained and equipped reservists. The facf is that any European nation would be in the same situation if they had to send in reservists. The professionals would be clearly better armed, equipped and trained. As per waves of cannon fodder… it exists, but it is not all that common. Remember, you only see what they want to show you (on both sides). The Russians are resilient and numerous. This war will continue for as long as Putin is in power. That is to say that we all need to focus on removing him, not just pushing back the Russian army, because they won’t just stop fighting even if you push them back to the border.

@jackroutledge352 You assume that the elites were sent in at the beginning of the war, which is a fallacy. Russia sent in a mix, but mostly regulars. Russia also overestimated the resistance. They really thought there would be almost none. Had they known, they would have planned the invasion very differently.

Reality? Whose reality, Putin’s? The West is quite in touch with reality. I assure you. So are plenty of Russians. Everyone is waiting for the Russian government to collapse from within, which will happen, fairly soon. Their politicians eat their own as soon as they smell blood in the water.

@clevermcgenericname891 Ukraine is reinforcing EVERY centimeter of their land. They are in a fight to get back all of their territory, so how is losing a city beneficial to that? It’s not.

You forgot to mention that the type of attack you mention doesn’t actually end up winning any war. It’s a tactic rather than a strategy.

@TheStugbit Ukraine’s tank forces were always old, outdated and limited compared to the number of infantry Russia could throw at them. When you don’t have superior numbers you need superior capability. In infantry Ukraine has superior numbers. In tanks, artillery and aircraft they never did. And so… they asked for more capable Western tanks, artillery and aircraft. Nothing surprising, unless you’re completely ignorant.

@TheStugbit Right. They are planning for combined arms warfare, so IFVs and tanks will work alongside infantry and artillery, likely with some air support.

@ChucksSEADnDEAD Maybe, but I think he means 200k at a time. I’ve never heard of such an order and I’d like to read it. Also, he says, “signed by the Kremlin and Putin”. The Kremlin is Putin. That’s like saying “signed by the White House and Biden”. I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about, at all.
